After the theme India: the emergence of an nation, 3.c were given the opportunity to watch and study the film Victoria & Abdul. The film deals with the conspicuous relationship between Queen Victoria and her servant Abdul. The British establishment struggle to come to terms with an Indian servant – and a Muslim one at that – being able to ‘rule’ the Empress of India. The film highlights the conflicting roles between the British Empire and India. Who governs who? India was once known as the jewel of the British Empire and as the studied theme argues today it is arguably India who shines the brightest as the sun now finally sets on the British Empire.
